THE CARRIAGE HOUSE AT FORT WILLIAM HENRY
The Carriage House at Fort William Henry is a historic 19th century building on the shores of beautiful Lake George. Once the site of a major battle during the French and Indian War, the Carriage House has seen many transformations during its lifetime. It was originally built as an actual barn-like structure to house the horses and carriages used to transport guests from New York City to Lake George in the early 1900s. In the mid-1900s it was used for a variety of purposes including housing for hotel workers, office space, and of course a performance space!
RENOVATION
Several years ago, the Lake George Music Festival took up a vested interest in the Carriage House. This underutilized treasure was often overlooked and was not used as a performance space since the 1970s. Seeing the continued success of our festival – as well as a fruitful future for the space – the Fort William Henry Hotel embarked on a massive project to fully renovate and restore the Carriage House into a grand event space. Having a historic, lake-side venue with all the preferred amenities will allow Lake George to again be a cultural tourism destination. The project was completed in May 2023.
AT THE VENUE TODAY
This historic and stunning 19th-century structure once supported the horses and carriages of the Gilded Age of travel in the Adirondacks. Today, after a $3.5 million renovation, it boasts a space that is fully ADA compliant, air conditioned, and features a large open seating interior, allowing for our patrons to spread out, and for us to comfortably seat up to 300 guests without feeling over-crowded.
The adjacent Fort William Henry property offers a full restaurant and bar, newly renovated hotel rooms, and arguably the best views anywhere on Lake George.
