SHEPARD PARK
AMPHITHEATER & BANDSTAND
Since its dedication on September 2, 1917, the Shepard Park Amphitheater and Bandstand has played host to countless concerts, events, and gatherings (including annual LGMF concerts) — a mainstay of summertime in the Village, and the enduring nucleus of our arts community as a whole.
The original Greek-inspired performance center, flanked by columns with an open-air stage, was replaced in the 1950s and has undergone upgrades and additions over the years, until it was sadly destroyed by a fire in the early morning of June 30, 2024.

After the fire, the community responded immediately, clearing the debris within 48 hours, and erected a temporary stage to ensure the scheduled summer and fall schedules could go on as planned.
Within a matter of weeks thereafter, a dedicated and determined committee was formed, comprised of municipal leaders, artists, technical engineers, and community members, tasked with the responsibility of guiding the vision for the resurrected space. With a focus on design, functionality, and accessibility, the committee pulled from their diverse perspectives and direct experience utilizing the space to help usher in the amphitheater’s next phase as the cornerstone of our creative community.

THE VENUE TODAY
On January 30, 2024 the Village of Lake George and AJA Architecture unveiled the new design plan for the new Shepard Park. The proposal featured a grand, arched bandstand with a transparent rear wall (for unobstructed views of Lake George), enhanced safety and accessibility features for the stage and seating areas, and additional improvements to Shepard Park.
The new amphitheater will allow Lake George to expand the presentation season as well as the diversity of programming, and play a crucial role in continuing to establish Lake George a world-class destination for the arts.
We are happy to share that construction has begun and the project is estimated to be complete by June, 2026.
